Moving Tips

Your moving day is quickly approaching and will be here before you know it!

Did you know the key to having a smooth and stress free move is preparation?   That's right, if you take the time to plan ahead and get organized in you’ll have much less to worry about on the big day.

We’ve put together a list of moving tips and tricks to help get your move off on the right foot.

What you can do:

1: LABEL YOUR BOXES

Label each box so you know what’s in it, and which room it goes in. This will make unpacking much easier on you.

2: HEAVY ITEM, SMALL BOX RULE

The heavier the item, the smaller the box.  It’s much easier to carry heavier items when they’re in smaller boxes. Save the larger boxes for things that are lighter, but hard to carry on their own.

3: ONE ROOM, ONE BOX RULE

Pack the same room in the same box. Don't mix. This way unpacking is quick, easy and organized

.

4: NO PACKING ON MOVING DAY

Having your items packed before moving day will help to decrease stress and increase your ability to manage your busy day.

5: KEEP YOUR FRAGILE ITEMS TOGETHER

Group delicate items together and make sure to label them as fragile.

This way you and your movers will know which boxes need extra care.

6: USE IT OR LOSE IT

Moving is a chore, but it's also a chance to make a clean start. As you go through your things to fill boxes, make piles of with what you really don't need.  Unloading unneeded furniture, having a yard sale, or making a tax deduction on donated goods can help you recoup some of your moving expenses.

7: THE FAMILY RULE

If you are depending on friends and family to help you move, have a back-up plan if they don’t show.

Working with your movers:

1: SORT OUT THE DETAILS AHEAD OF TIME

Book your movers 4 to 6 weeks ahead of time. Once booked discuss with your movers where they can park the truck, how they can best access your residence, and if there are any time limitations on parking or moving hours.

2: LAST IN, FIRST OUT

Tell us which boxes you need first at your new home, that way you won’t have to go searching for those important items.

3: FINISH PACKING BEFORE MOVING DAY

We repeat: no packing on moving day! Have everything ready to roll when the team shows up.  This will ensure time lines are meet and additional charges do not occur.

4: KEEP YOUR MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WITH YOU

Don’t pack cash, jewelry, or prescription medications - keep these with you as you might need to access them on moving day,

5: PREP YOUR FURNITURE

Remove all heavy and breakable items are from dressers and desks.  You do not want your items moving around in drawers during the move and your movers do not want breakage to occur as a result.

6: NO FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE ITEMS

By law, a moving company can’t transport hazardous materials such as gasoline, bottled gases and other flammables, ammunition and explosives.  Please do not be offended when we say NO to these items, its in your best interest to not have these with your belongings.
